Cosplay Build Direction Research Standard

A Cosplay OS build direction should help a reader recreate a real character without guessing what matters, where the advice came from, or whether a buying link is current. This page defines what must exist before a character guide is treated as publishable.

Source Quality Tiers

Tier Use Examples
Primary Confirm the character, outfit variant, colors, props, and official naming. Official website, publisher profile, art book listing, game model viewer, licensed product page.
Construction Understand materials, patterning, wig styling, prop construction, and common mistakes. Detailed maker writeups, cosplay tutorials, credible forum threads, documented build logs.
Sourcing Check current buying routes, price bands, reviews, delivery risk, and substitutions. Official stores, known cosplay shops, fabric suppliers, wig shops, maker marketplaces, commissioner portfolios.
Community signal Find repeated issues, fit warnings, material problems, and convention practicality notes. Recent reviews, Reddit or forum discussions, convention feedback, creator comments.

Publication Gate

  • Do not publish a character guide as complete without at least one primary source and a visible source log.
  • Do not recommend a purchase channel without price band, region, delivery caveat, and last-checked date.
  • Do not use affiliate links without clear disclosure before the link appears.
  • Do not show fictional creators, vendors, or suppliers as if they are real listings.
  • Do not sell a product unless the buyer can preview the exact deliverable or a representative sample.

Paid Product Gate

Paid products are paused until the site has several complete public build directions that demonstrate the research standard. The first paid offer should be either a custom character research brief or a transparent printable workbook with a full preview, not a vague promise of cosplay planning.
